murderer

He killed a man
Just shot him dead
Wanted his watch, wanted his soul

Now in court he sits I watch his hurt eyes, haunted eyes, scared eyes
Jail house does not rock.

This works! How very gripping your very last line. How it works in wonderful juxtaposition to the rest of the poem.

Is it Elvis Presley whom this last line features? I went to university in Memphis where Graceland is.

Always in your poems there is this hint of - this allusion to the music - to the songs you're into and which are in you.

yes the last line alludes to Elvis Presley's song Jailhouse Rock and rock in the poem is a play on a term kids use today to mean fun.

n.t.-b. "wanted his soul" in this poem, every time I read it, makes me think of a wonderful film, "Tombstone," a Western, with Kurt Russell. Have you ever see it? It is action but the language, the screenplay, is also quite wonderful. Look, listen, if you hadn't. I recommend it.
